OpenAI Expands ChatGPT Search Capabilities, Introduces Shopping Features
OpenAI has launched several new features in ChatGPT, including changes to search, shopping, citations, and WhatsApp integration. The updates are rolling out to Plus, Pro, Free, and logged-out users across all regions where ChatGPT is available.
The rollout of these features began on Tuesday and is expected to be completed within the next few days.
“Search has become one of our most popular and fastest growing features, with over 1 billion web searches just in the past week,” OpenAI stated.
The company is introducing an experimental shopping experience in ChatGPT. Users can find, compare, and purchase products directly through the interface. According to OpenAI, the new shopping feature includes improved product results, visual details such as pricing and reviews, and direct links to purchase products. OpenAI clarified that product results are chosen independently and are not ads.
A few days ago, it was reported that OpenAI plans to add a shopping experience to ChatGPT by adding an integration for Shopify, an e-commerce platform.
In addition to shopping, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT search is now accessible through WhatsApp. Users can message 1-800-ChatGPT (+1-800-242-8478) to receive up-to-date answers and live sports scores. OpenAI noted this feature is accessible everywhere ChatGPT is available.
OpenAI also introduced improvements to how citations are displayed. Responses can now include multiple citations, allowing users to verify information across several sources. A new ‘highlight’ UI indicates which parts of the answer each citation refers to.
Trending searches and autocomplete suggestions have been added to further speed up the search experience within ChatGPT.
