Chennai Gets Another AI-Ready Data Centre With Techno Digital’s New 36MW Facility
Techno Digital, the digital infrastructure arm of Techno Electric and Engineering, inaugurated a new 36-megawatt (MW) AI-ready data centre in Chennai.
Located at the SIPCOT IT Park in Siruseri, the facility is supported by a $175 million committed investment, as part of its $1 billion commitment towards building infrastructure in India.
The centre covers over two lakh square feet and has a hosting capacity of 2,400 high-density racks. It is designed to support flexible power densities ranging from 10 kilowatts (kW) to 50 kW per rack and beyond. The facility’s design is certified for NVIDIA’s latest GB200 series.
Moreover, the geographical advantages of Chennai ensure that the data centre is connected to multiple cable landing stations, facilitating data transfer across global networks.
“Chennai stands out as a top destination for hyperscale data centres, due to its robust infrastructure, progressive business policies and vibrant talent pool. This, coupled with our strong credentials in power infrastructure, strategically positions us as a partner of choice for enterprises looking to modernise, scale, embrace sustainability and future-proof their digital operations,” Ankit Saraiya, director and CEO of Techno Digital, said in a press release.
Chennai remains one of India’s leading data centre hubs in the country. Companies like Sify Technologies, NTT Data, ST Telemedia, Digital Connexion, Adani Group, CtrlS and Nxtra (by Airtel) have all established data centre facilities in the city.
While Mumbai accounts for 41% of share of the country’s data centre capacity, Chennai stands second at 23%, followed by Delhi NCR at 14%.
Earlier this month, Digital Connexion announced that the 20MW MAA10 facility in Ambattur has been certified as part of NVIDIA’s DGX-Ready Data Centre programme. Digital Connexion is a joint venture between Brookfield Asset Management, Reliance Industries Limited and Digital Realty.
Recently, L&T’s Cloudfiniti announced SPD1, the company’s latest AI-ready data centre located in Sriperumbudur.
Spanning approximately four lakh square feet of built-up area, the centre is designed with a scalable power capacity of 30 MW.
Besides, the overall data centre capacity in India has seen a rapid growth, thanks to establishments from both homegrown and global companies. As of April, Colliers, an investment management company, estimated India’s data centre capacity at 1.2 GW.
According to reports, Google is set to invest $6 billion (~₹52,634 crore) to develop a 1 gigawatt data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
