Google has announced the Pixel 10 lineup of smartphones, featuring significant upgrades in AI capabilities.

These smartphones are equipped with the Tensor G5 chip, designed by Google in collaboration with TSMC, which provides the necessary capabilities to run these AI workloads and features. The chip also runs the company’s latest Gemini Nano models on the device.

Google also announced a complimentary 1-year plan of Google AI Pro, worth $199, for everyone who purchases a Pixel 10 Pro/XL, or the Pixel 10 Pro Fold devices.

The new voice translation feature in Pixel 10 uses an on-device AI model to translate phone calls in real time into the speaker’s voice, making the person on the other end feel like you’re speaking their language.

This feature works when translating to or from English with Spanish, German, Japanese, French, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Russian, and Indonesian.

Google has also announced a feature called ‘Magic Cue’, which services context from various apps like Gmail, Calendar, Screenshots, Messages, and more to provide relevant information when you need it. “Say your friend texts to ask when your flight’s landing. Magic Cue will reference your itinerary, pull the relevant details and suggest you share them right in your Messages app with just a tap,” said Google, in a blog post.

Other features include the device asking a person whose call you decline or miss to provide a message for you, which will then be transcribed, and the AI will identify next steps based on that message.

Google has also upgraded Gemini Live for Pixel 10 devices, where the feature not only offers visual help from the environment it can see via the camera, but also provides guidance by highlighting the solution directly on the screen.

With Pixel 10 devices, NotebookLM, the company’s popular AI research tool, is now integrated with the Screenshots and the Recorder app. “If Screenshots detects a picture you’ve taken that could be a good fit for your notebook, it will automatically suggest you add it for easy tracking. Similarly, you can now add transcripts from Recorder to your notebook,” said Google.

Furthermore, users can now transform their ‘hums’ and other song ideas directly into music on the Recorder app. “Just record your vocals and select your desired musical style to create a unique track that suits your vibe,” said Google.

Google also announced a new update to the Google Photos app, which lets one edit pictures using natural language prompts. “For example, you could ask for a specific edit, like ‘remove the cars in the background’ or something more general like ‘restore this old photo, ‘ and Photos will understand the changes you’re trying to make,” said Google. The feature will arrive first to the Pixel 10 lineup.
