OpenAI has announced a new plan called ChatGPT Go, a ₹399 per month plan in India. The plan provides higher usage limits to all of ChatGPT’s features, compared to the free plan. 

This includes 10x higher message limits to GPT-5, 10x more image generations per day, 10x more file or image uploads per day, and 2x longer memory for personalised responses. 

Besides, the company also announced that alongside ChatGPT Go, the Plus (₹1,999 per month) and the Pro (₹19,999 per month) plans can be paid for using UPI. The Plus plan offers higher limits to all features. Whereas the professional-grade Pro plan offers ‘near-unlimited’ access. 

“We’ve been inspired by how millions of people in India use ChatGPT daily for learning, work, creativity, and problem-solving,” said Nick Turley, VP and head of ChatGPT at OpenAI. “With ChatGPT Go, we’re excited to make these capabilities even more accessible and easier to pay for through UPI,” he added. 

Users can visit chat.openai.com or download the mobile app, then upgrade to the Go plan and complete the payment using UPI or other methods.

Currently, India is ChatGPT’s second-largest and one of the fastest-growing markets for the company. 

Recently, OpenAI announced GPT-5, the company’s most advanced AI model yet. OpenAI claims that GPT-5 shows notable gains in three major application areas for ChatGPT users, such as software development, creative writing, and health advice.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman compared GPT-5 to having instant access to a group of PhD-level experts. “People are limited by ideas, but not really the ability to execute, in many new ways,” he said.

That said, ChatGPT Go represents another effort by an AI lab to lower the cost of accessing advanced AI models and plans in India. It follows Perplexity’s announcement that all Airtel users in the country can now use the Pro plan valued at ₹17,000 free for a year, and Google’s announcement that all students in India can access Gemini Advanced worth ₹19,500 for a year at no cost.
