Apple to Allow App Developers to Use Its AI Models to Build Apps: Report
Apple, the Cupertino giant, is preparing to allow third-party app developers to build features using its AI models, reported Bloomberg on Tuesday. The report added that Apple is working on a software development kit that will let developers build AI features based on the models used for Apple Intelligence.
This will allow the development of third-party apps for Apple devices with AI-enabled features. The company will unveil it on June 9 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
This development is yet another attempt from the company to redeem itself in the AI race, given how it has remained largely behind the competition.
Bloomberg added that Apple is working on an AI-powered battery management mode for devices, alongside an AI-enabled health app.
Recently, it was reported that the company is working on new chips for its upcoming smart wearable glasses, ‘more powerful’ Macs, and AI servers. Apple will likely begin mass production of these chips by the end of next year, or in 2027.
The AI server chips will be designed to process tasks related to Apple Intelligence, which will then be sent to the users’ devices.
Earlier, Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior VP of services, revealed the company’s intention to incorporate AI search into Safari, with support from either Perplexity, Google, or OpenAI. Additionally, Google CEO Sundar Pichai disclosed that Google intends to partner with Apple to integrate Gemini into Apple Intelligence this year.
It was also reported that CEO Tim Cook, in a discussion with Pichai, mentioned that ‘more third-party AI models’ will be delivered to Apple Intelligence later this year.
Besides, the company is facing a delay in releasing an upgraded version of the virtual assistant, Siri. Apple announced that the release of Siri’s big AI update has been delayed until 2026. Reports highlighted that Apple struggled to mitigate various bugs and engineering problems within Siri.
