Delhi-based AVPL International received authorisation from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to train drone pilots in the Medium-Class Rotorcraft category in India. This approval allows AVPL to train pilots for drones weighing between 25 kg and 150 kg, making it one of the first few organisations in the country with this capability.

The training caters to rising demand for medium-class drone pilots, particularly in agriculture and defence sectors, where drones are used for tasks like crop monitoring, precision spraying, and surveillance. AVPL aims to address the shortage of certified pilots by offering DGCA-approved training programmes to prepare skilled professionals.

Preet Sandhuu, founder and MD of AVPL International, said, “This DGCA authorisation for medium category drone training not only validates our efforts but also inspires us to work even harder toward empowering youth with advanced skills and driving innovation.”

AVPL has also contributed to drone technology with developments such as the 10-litre capacity Viraj drone designed for agricultural use. The company collaborates with institutions including IIT Ropar and IIT Kanpur to advance drone research and innovation, focusing on solutions tailored for Indian agriculture.

With over a decade of experience and operations across 12 Indian states, AVPL International continues to support India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in drone technology and expanding its drone ecosystem.

Not only AVPL, but recently, Mumbai-based ideaForge also received DGCA certification to conduct its Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) Training (Small Class) programme. The five-day certified training would aim to upskill drone pilots nationwide, address regulatory standards, and enhance operational safety.

These initiatives support India’s drive to build a self-reliant drone ecosystem and generate employment across sectors such as defence, agriculture, mining, and disaster management.
