Razorpay Launches MCP Server for AI Payment Integration
Razorpay has launched India’s first payment gateway with an official Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, enabling seamless payment integration with AI-powered systems. The new server allows users to connect to any AI system, facilitating the embedding of payment functionalities within chatbots, apps, and autonomous systems.
Razorpay founder Shashank Kumar explained that the MCP server enables quick payment processing, stating, “For example: Type ‘Send ₹500 payment link to Neha,’ and a payment link is generated, shared on WhatsApp, and completed, all within seconds.” This feature improves the speed and efficiency of transactions directly through AI interfaces.
To use the new server, users need to install the Razorpay MCP server and configure an MCP client, such as Claude Desktop, VS Code, or Cursor. This setup unlocks the payment capabilities of Razorpay within any compatible AI assistant.
The company has made the complete documentation available on GitHub for developers, further simplifying the integration process. Razorpay’s latest offering aims to streamline payment transactions in the evolving AI landscape, offering fast and efficient solutions for AI-driven systems.
Developed by Anthropic, MCP is an open standard that allows AI models, particularly LLMs, to interact with external systems, tools, and data sources in a consistent and structured way. Instead of being limited to the knowledge they were trained on, models using MCP can perform real-time actions like querying a database, calling an API, reading files, or executing workflows. It is like a USB-C port for AI applications—a universal connector for AI systems.
