Societal challenges in India are being met with innovative AI solutions from Romesh Wadhwani, the founder of Wadhwani AI. Through his non-profit institute, Wadhwani is  using the power of artificial intelligence to tackle critical issues and drive meaningful change.

In 2018, Wadhwani and his brother Sunil established the Wadhwani Institute for AI (WIAI) in Mumbai, India. It serves as a research institute and global hub for developing AI solutions for social good, focusing on areas such as public health, education, skilling, job creation, and infrastructure.

Through WIAI, Wadhwani is using AI to solve large-scale societal problems. The institute develops AI-based solutions for underserved communities in developing countries, working on projects in agriculture, education, and health domains.

WIAI works closely with various Indian government bodies, including NITI Aayog, ministry of health & welfare, and several state governments, to identify use cases, collect data, conduct pilots, and deploy AI solutions.

Besides, Wadhwani also founded SymphonyAI, a generative AI SaaS company that develops AI solutions across various sectors, including retail, consumer goods, life sciences, manufacturing, defence, financial services, and media.
