Google announced today that its AI assistant Gemini is now available as a mobile app in India, with support for nine Indian languages. The company also unveiled powerful new features for Gemini Advanced, its premium offering, and the ability to chat with Gemini in Google Messages.

The Gemini mobile app, available on Android and iOS, allows users to collaborate with the AI assistant on the go for tasks like planning, recipe creation, and writing. It supports Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, in addition to English. Users can type, talk, or add images to get assistance.

“This marks a significant step forward in our journey to build a truly conversational, multimodal, and helpful AI assistant,” said Amar Subramanya, Vice President of Engineering for Gemini Experiences at Google. The app integrates many Google Assistant voice features like setting timers and making calls.

Gemini Advanced, the premium version, is also getting multilingual support for the nine Indian languages. It now has a context window of 1 million tokens, the longest of any widely available consumer chatbot. This allows it to process lengthy documents, emails, videos, and codebases.

New Gemini Advanced features include document uploads for summarizing and analyzing up to 1,500 pages, and data analysis for exploring and visualizing spreadsheet data. Google emphasized that user privacy remains a top priority, with files kept private.

Additionally, Gemini will now be accessible within Google Messages, initially rolling out in English. This allows users to get help with drafting messages and planning directly in the messaging app.

“We’re incredibly excited to see how people across India will continue to use Gemini in new and innovative ways,” said Subramanya. “Whether you’re using Gemini on your phone, in Google Messages, or on the web, we hope you’ll find it to be a valuable tool for unleashing your creativity, boosting productivity, and exploring new ideas.”
