Elon Musk Bonds With OpenAI After Being a Jerk
In a surprising development Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk today went live with a team of experts from OpenAI. Musk who was a co-founder has been one of the ‘open’ critiques of OpenAI recently. Musk has been critical of OpenAI being a ‘closed-source for profit company’, contrary to how he had envisioned and founded it to be in the beginning. Incidentally, Musk has been trying to create an AI research lab to develop a ChatGPT rival.
Musk’s brother Kimbal Musk also joined him on the podcast which went live on OpenAI’s Youtube channel.
The OpenAI team discussed in-depth about the world of AI with OpenAI and their game-changing ChatGPT. OpenAI experts and Musk explored the limitless potential of AI and the future of this technology. They also reminisced Yahoo and the ‘behemoth’ that it was.
The podcast was also meant to give insights into Elon Musk’s involvement with OpenAI, including his thoughts on the future of AI and Tesla’s role in the development of this technology.
This comes in the backdrop of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s recent podcast with Lex Fridman—-where he shared his thoughts on the future of artificial intelligence, including GPT-4 and ChatGPT. Altman also touched on his relationship with Elon Musk, with whom he shares concerns about the potential downsides of AGI.
Altman recognised that Musk has publicly criticised OpenAI on various social media platforms, but he also showed understanding towards Musk’s apprehensions regarding the safety of AGI. Altman stated that Musk is directing his criticism towards OpenAI, but he empathises with him since he believes Musk is understandably worried about the safety of AGI.
Altman views Musk as a heroic figure and thinks that he can make a valuable contribution to the advancement of AGI, despite their disagreements. “Despite him being a jerk on Twitter, I’m glad that he exists in the world. I wish he would do more to look at the hard work we’re doing,” he said.
Additionally, Altman talked about the possibilities of GPT-4, the next version of OpenAI’s language model after GPT-3, which has been praised as a significant advancement in natural language processing. Altman is of the opinion that GPT-4 will be even more robust and have the ability to handle more intricate tasks.
