Co-founded by ex-OpenAI employees, Anthropic, is now offering its selected partners access to its AI-based text-generating models. Robin AI, a legal tech startup, is the first to announce that they are using the models offered by Anthropic. The company raised north of $13 million from Plural, Episode 1, and Google Black Founders Fund. 

The number of startups that are using Anthropic’s models is not yet revealed. But the OpenAI rival company is under pressure to overcome the millions of dollars that the investors have poured in. Poe, a chatbot app built by Quora uses Anthropic models as well, but the monetisation is not made clear. 

The San-Francisco based research lab, had earlier introduced a waitlist for early access to Claude, its AI assistant, after Google invested $300 million in the startup acquiring a 10% stake, also making them their preferred cloud provider. 

Google made the bet into an OpenAI rival to release a ChatGPT rival, Claude, with “constitutional AI”, which provides a principle based approach, letting AI respond with keeping the human’s intentions in mind. But later the system started giving inconsistent and factually incorrect statements. 

Amid the concerns of the huge money required to build expensive AI models, the company had also earlier raised funds around $580 million from different investors, just one year after its launch, raising eyebrows as well. Now with the company giving access to its models to companies’, after getting funded from big-tech, Anthropic’s initial mission statement of non being profit-driven is unclear.
