Meesho appoints Debdoot Mukherjee as chief data scientist
E-commerce platform Meesho has announced the appointment of Debdoot Mukherjee as their chief data scientist. Debdoot will spearhead Meesho’s efforts to revolutionise the ecommerce marketplace through smart and efficient AI-based solutions. Debdoot comes with over 14 years of total experience and specialises in developing large-scale recommender systems. He has held leadership positions in companies like Sharechat, Hike and Myntra.
Making the announcement, Debdoot wrote on LinkedIn: Lot of unique problems are waiting to be solved at Meesho as we take rapid strides toward our bold mission of bringing 100 million small businesses online.
– Loyalty is largely built up around brands today. How can we enable customers to purchase non-branded goods with high confidence?
– How can first-time sellers catalogue products efficiently?
– How can product search interfaces (visual, audio or text) evolve to effectively understand the intent of first-time Internet users?
– How can feed personalisation solve discovery of hundreds of millions of products in a fair manner?
“I join Meesho feeling deeply connected with their mission of democratising internet commerce for everyone in India. First, customer experience can be greatly improved by applying machine learning at different touchpoints – from easing the discovery of products by personalising the storefront to ensuring smooth delivery of orders by optimising the supply chain. Second, sellers become more successful by benefitting from AI solutions for cataloguing products, pricing and advertising. Finally, all parties can develop greater trust in the marketplace as a result of AI capabilities that enhance its ability to control fraudulent behaviour and ensure fairness in growing different product categories and businesses,” he said.
