Apple completes production tests of its AR/ VR headset
Apple has reportedly completed production tests for its long-awaited AR and VR headset. The headset was slated to launch by the end of 2022. The headset has reportedly passed the second phase of the engineering validation tests (EVT 2).
The headset is rumoured to have highly sensitive 3D sensing modules to facilitate advanced hand tracking and four sets of 3D light sensors with the ability to detect “dynamic detail change”. It is reportedly similar to Oculus Quest, and may have 15 camera modules, eye-tracking, and will likely cost between USD 2,000 to USD 3,000.
The headset is expected to be lightweight and comfortable. Since 2017, rumours were rife that Apple was working on the headset’s operating system, realityOS. Recently, the existence of the operating system was confirmed when references were found in App Store upload logs and Apple open source code.
Apple is a step closer to releasing the headset but the release date could be pushed to late 2022 or early 2023.
