BigBasket acquires Kochi based computer vision startup Agrima Infotech
BigBasket has acquired Kochi-based startup Agrima Infotech. BigBasket has plans to deploy “Psyight’, a computer-vision technology platform built by Agrima Infotech, at the self-checkout counters of its retail stores.
“We look forward to working with the Agrima team to build solid innovation in the grocery space,” said Big Basket CEO Hari Menon. BigBasket will leverage Agrima Infotech’s expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning to enrich and enhance technological innovation in the company, he added.
‘Psyight’ helps identify all Indian fruits and vegetables without using barcodes.
“We have captured thousands of images of each SKU (stock-keeping unit) across the seasons and from different locations to achieve cent per cent accuracy,”said Arun Ravi, co-founder and COO, Agrima Infotech.
Agrima Infotech was founded in 2011 by Anoop Balakrishnan, Arun Ravi and Nikhil Dharman. The startup enables food and retail companies to build deep tech solutions at scale.
BigBasket recently forayed into offline retail space and opened a self-service ‘Fresho’ store in Bengaluru: The stores have deployed an AI-based computer vision technology to identify the items and generate bills for customers without human intervention.
