Top tools for enabling CI/CD in ML pipelines
Continuous Integration, abbreviated as CI, is when all software developers merge their code changes in a central repository many times throughout the day. Continuous delivery, abbreviated as CD, refers to a fully automated software release method.
CI/CD is a DevOps approach, so it belongs in that category, although the two names are not interchangeable. A continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline is an automated mechanism for streamlining the software delivery process. When software is updated, CI/CD pipelines produce code, run tests, and deliver new product versions. The CI section of the CI/CD pipeline is where the testing happens. The automated system integrates and tests the code modifications. Because the pipeline continuously distributes or delivers software at scale, deployment is the CD element of the pipeline. This article reviews tools & libraries which enable CI/CD in ML pipelines.
Continuous Machine Learning
CML is an open-source platform for integrating and deploying machine learning projects continuously. This is one of the few projects designed particularly for MLOps, so you can quickly try it out. For data science, CML employs GitFlow. You can manage machine learning experiments in the environment you’re most comfortable with, whether it’s GitLab or GitHub. Instead of pushing to a Git repository, DVC can be used. For machine learning projects, it has automatic reports. CML generates visual reports with metrics and graphs in each Git pull request by automatically monitoring changing datasets and comparing ML experiments over project history. Your technical team will be able to stay awake and make data-driven decisions as a result.
GitHub Actions
GitHub Actions is a new tool on GitHub that automates workflows. GitHub offers CI/CD features such as code pushes, release creation, and problem management. You can immediately access GitHub Actions after logging in to GitHub. It has many CI/CD features, such as automated testing, constructing a container, deploying a web service, and automating new user onboarding in your open-source project. GitHub isn’t just an MLOps tool; its applications are far more diverse. The advantage of GitHub Actions is that you have direct access to the GitHub API with authentication. There’s no need for a complicated setup. GitHub operations are nothing more than a series of docker runs. As a result, they’re exceedingly simple to reason about and troubleshoot. For seamless testing, you can isolate actions in a workflow. Compilation and testing can be done in two different computing environments.
Jenkins
Jenkins is a popular continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) Java application that runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and other Unix-like operating systems and is licenced under the MIT licence. It comes with a robust suite of tools for building, testing, deploying, integrating, and releasing software. Jenkins can be installed standalone or as Docker on any machine that has the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed, in addition to using a standard installation package. Jenkins X, a Jenkins subproject specialising in CI/CD within Kubernetes clusters, is also available. Jenkins includes around 1,500 plugins, allowing it to be used with other solutions such as Slack or Jira. A variety of DevOps testing tools can also be integrated.
CircleCI
CircleCI is a cloud-based system that does not require the installation of a separate server or administration. There is also an on-premises version that may be installed on a private cloud. CircleCI is available for free, even for commercial use. You can access projects, assemblies, and artefacts using the REST API. To prevent having to repeatedly install required environments, CircleCI caches third-party dependencies. With advanced caching, dock-level caching, resource classes for executing on faster machines and performance reviews, CircleCI can be customised to run highly complex pipelines effectively. As a developer, you can utilise SSH to perform any debugging tasks or use the circleci/config.yml file to set up concurrency to speed up operations. CircleCI monitors and analyses your builds and leverages Nomad Cluster for scheduling.
GitLab for CI/CD
This is a free, open-source product created in Go and Ruby and licenced under the MIT licence. Based on this method, more than 25,000 users can be served by a separate server. You may work with repositories and conduct code reviews with GitLab CI/CD. It also contains a system for detecting and correcting errors. By installing the tool locally, you can link it to Active Directory and LDAP servers for enhanced user privacy. Working with the product is made easier by a huge and active community. Not only is GitLab used to produce code, but it is also used to thoroughly review it. Virtually every build environment and version control system is supported.
