How BigBasket Daily Revamped Its User Experience With Coditas
User experience has been a critical aspect for eCommerce sites which can build or ruin a company’s reputation among its customers. If a company wants to sell its products online, it cannot only rely on the quality of its products; instead, it requires to provide a seamless user experience (UX) that makes it easier for the customers to visit the site, over and over again to buy its products.
Good user experience includes simple navigation, quick transactions, easy communication as well as a good user interface that can allow all these to work seamlessly. BigBasket Daily is one such e-grocery startup that has been struggling with such issues which was not only hampering its business but also creating problems for its customers.
Bigbasket Daily or BB Daily, which was earlier known as RainCan was rebranded in 2018 as a subscription-based service, which provides an early morning delivery of household essentials that includes milk, bread, fruits and vegetables, baby diapers and staples. As a matter of fact, due to the pandemic lockdown, BB daily has seen massive traction amid its customers who are relying on the company for their essential good. With such massive traction of customers on the app, the company needed to create an uninterrupted experience for its customers.
However, the existing app’s UI was not very powerful, with the app frequently facing immense performance issues due to it’s not-so structured backend. When asked Abhijeet Kumar, Co-Founder & CEO, RainCan, he said, “It was proving very difficult for RainCan to sustain a business with these technical glitches as we wanted our app to be more user friendly.” Thus the company decided to create an Android app from scratch, with a structured backend and all the management around it in order to optimise their business processes.

How Coditas Helped BBDaily (RainCan)
After a major evaluation, BB Daily approached Coditas, a company that helps businesses build their apps, not only with a seamless user interface but also with accurate coding, performance and maintainability. To build the flawless user experience, Coditas proposed to revamp their entire application and to build the solution from scratch.
“We took care of the whole software development of Raincan, also known as BB Daily,” said Varun Srinivas, the tech lead at Coditas. “We created an Android app and administrative dashboards.”
The newly created application not only helped the users place their orders quickly but also the structured dashboard facilitated the administrator’s job in managing them. “We also suggested and implemented a print functionality in the dashboard to allow the admin staff to print the orders and cut down the delivery agents’ waiting time severely,” added Srinivas.
To facilitate this, the application dashboards were created as part of the backend admin app, using angular, NodeJS, and the database layer. The company used multiple other angular charting and data table libraries to help analyse and visualise the data. “We had ETL-Like processes and nightly jobs, that helped in organising the data the way we need it for the dashboards,” said Kumar from RainCan (BB Daily). The backend of the application was created in node.js with a relational database, and the administrative dashboard was built using Angular.
Further to this, Coditas built and operated a transfer which enabled a transferable software product development teams, where the client can set up development centres engaging the company in the model. Along with this, with extensive experience working with remote client teams, it enabled the models used by the client, BB Daily, to have an existing team along with the ability to add remote team members.
Moreover, BB Daily required a solution with minimal involvement with timely deliveries, and thus Coditas took ownership of the entire solution delivery and worked towards achieving a specific deadline. Coditas believe in empathising with the evolving needs of a growing startup like BigBasket Daily and providing an agile process, where the technologies and the team could be scaled accordingly. “We have an extreme focus on quality and have very strong internal standards,” added Srinivas.
Wrapping Up with Benefits
Having the application built by Coditas, the company’s profit got positively impacted. Not only the number of subscriptions increased but also witnessed major growth in their retention rate. In terms of numbers, BB Daily witnessed an increase of 84% of customers compared to the pre-pandemic levels along with massive growth in the retention rate by 50%. This, in turn, helped them scale faster than usual.
The responsive and user-friendly interface proved to be the primary contributor in getting that kind of traction, as the app started working flawlessly and seamlessly for the users. The ease of using the app increased tremendously, and the users couldn’t be happier. “The app’s initial version was out in four months, and we made sure that our internal quality standards are met within the agreed timeframes, concluded Srinivas.
