Hyderabad Boy Becomes The World’s Fastest Human Calculator At A Recently Held Championship
Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash, a 21-year-old Delhi University student is the world’s fastest human calculator as he won a gold in the recently conducted Mental Calculation World Championship at Mind Sports Olympiad (MSO).
This is the first time that an Indian has won gold in the championship which was held in London on the Independence day. He won with a clear margin of 65 points beating 30 participants up to the age of 57 years from 13 different countries such as Germany, UK, UAE, Greece, Lebanon and others. The competition was conducted virtually.
The MSO is considered the most prestigious international competition for mental skill and mind sports and is considered equivalent to the Olympic event for physical sports.
Currently, a student of Mathematics Honors at Delhi University’s St Stephen College, Bhanu Prakash is originally from Hyderabad and holds four world records and 50 Limca records for being the fastest human calculator in the world. He has broken records that were once held by Math maestros like Scott Flansburg and Shakuntala Devi.
In an interview with the media, Bhanu Prakash said that his vision is to create “VISION Math” labs and reach out to millions of children to make them start loving maths. He says that most students have trouble understanding basic mathematics, which he wants to change.
