In this article, we take a look at the basic differences between Automation Anywhere and UiPath- two of the most popular RPA tools.

As the world is moving towards building new processes, it has fuelled the absolute necessity for automation. Now, every organisation, big or small is aiming to automate business processes in a way that it complements the manual strategising.

RPA is a technology that automates repetitive tasks by mimicking human actions. The process is a set of sequential actions that lead to desired results. Automation is anything which is done without human intervention.

Using RPA, you can design a program with the help of an RPA tool using some logic and sequence. The RPA tools initialise the bot which goes through the data, analyse the relevant data and extract it and paste it to an excel file. Most of the RPA tools are built on the .NET framework by Microsoft and follow a client-server architecture.

While RPA is becoming the new age marvel which is being utilised by enterprises to automate their tasks and processes, the market for RPA is mostly dominated by two powerful and dynamic RPA companies – UiPath and Automation Anywhere. In this article, we do a comparative analysis of the two most popular robotic process automation (RPA) tools.

Utility

Automation Anywhere is based on Microsoft technologies and has client server-based architecture. Automation Anywhere has the capabilities to manage high scale robot deployment than UiPath. With Automation Anywhere, developers are likely to create automation robots for performing more complex tasks. This can lead to minimal control and most developers making sure that bots will follow the necessary steps given to them.

Uipath, on the other hand, is based on Sharepoint, Kibana, ElasticSearch to enable automation, and is a web-based orchestrator for automating tasks. UiPath is more like Windows desktop (RPA) Software created to empower business analysts, resulting in automating business processes with a focus on the activities based on flow-chart. It’s a tool base that reduces manpower and contains less code like .net, scripting language due to drag and drop functionality. UiPath Robotic Process Automation also shines in Citrix automation and was specifically designed for BPO Automation, based on client insights.

Prerequisite

Automation Anywhere is more focused on developers and is completely script-based. It requires a little knowledge of coding to use the activities. Automation Anywhere requires some beginner-level programming skills. All you need to know is basic programming fundamentals, and you are good to go with Automation Anywhere as well.

On the other hand, Uipath does not require programming skills as the dashboard is simple with basic functionality and anyone who understands the business problem can design it for functionality. Based on this parameter, Uipath emerges as the clear winner because it’s a user-friendly dashboard and offers simple drag and drop functionality. This means that UiPath is the tool for you if you have no coding background.

In terms of popularity on Google search trends, UiPath beats Automation Anywhere by a big margin.

Cognitive Features

Automation Anywhere has combined RPA with native artificial intelligence (AI) to support unstructured data, web-based architecture, its acquisition of KlevOps to enhance attended automation, its strong ecosystem supported by its marketplace and more than $800 million in funding to accelerate further product research and development. Automation Anywhere has been working on its automation marketplace Bot Store and first dedicated analytics engine Bot Insight and IQ Bot, an AI-driven intelligent document processing solution that allows business users to process complex documents. In terms of cognitive services like NLP, Automation Anywhere is leading since it has been there for longer.

UiPath has a lower cognitive services ability than Automation Anywhere, but with partnerships with other vendors, UiPAth may enhance its cognitive abilities as well. If we look at UiPath, we can see that after its acquisition of ProcessGold and StepShot last year, UiPath became the first company of scale to converge on both process mining and Robotic Process Automation. According to Gartner, this combination of RPA with process mining and AI/ML creates intelligent hyper-automation for UiPath customers.

Partnerships

Automation Anywhere came out with a strategic partnership with Microsoft, which will assist thousands of businesses of all sizes across multiple industries, enhance processes with automation. Customers will now be able to access Automation Anywhere bots from Microsoft Azure to help manage large, unstructured datasets, decrease time-to-market, and lower operating costs.

UiPath, on the other hand, has partnered with Sisense, an analytics platform to leverage Sisense’s technology platform to deliver advanced business analytics capabilities to UiPath’s industry-leading RPA software platform. The integration of Sisense’s AI-powered analytics to the UiPath platform takes UiPath’s customers’ automation strategy to the next level.  Apart from that, UiPath has a partnership with ABBYY on content intelligence to enable digital workers to turn content into business insights. As a UiPath technology partner, ABBYY’s Content IQ technologies and solutions automatically classify documents and extract data turning content into structured, actionable information, thus enhancing the customer experience, and improving operational efficiency.
